KFR Crews deal with overnight fires

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Crews were busy dealing with two separate fires in the the South Kamloops area overnight.

Platoon Captain Mike Haynes says the crews attended a small fire in an apartment building on 8th Avenue just before 11:00 PM Monday night (July 20th). The fire did some damage to one unit of the building, but Haynes says it had been put out by the resident with a chemical fire extinguisher before crews arrived. He says it may have been related to a battery for an electric bike that was being charged at the time.

But Haynes says they had a more serious fire up the road on Fraser Street just before 4:00 AM this (Tuesday) morning . He says they were called at 3:44 AM to a residence where a fire had broken out in the carport area. Crews put the fire out fairly quickly, but the two cars in the carport were destroyed. Captain Haynes says there was some damage to the outside of the residence, but the carport was somewhat separated from the main building, so damage to the residence itself was relatively minor. Fire investigators will be looking for a cause later this morning.
