KAMLOOPS — UPDATE: BC Hydro says a cable fault was the cause of a power outage impacting hundreds of customers in downtown Kamloops this morning, and power has been restored.

PREVIOUS: The power is out for a section of downtown Kamloops this morning (July 18), after an apparent electrical box fire.

Just before 8 a.m, Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Captain Mike Haines says firefighters were called to the 4th Avenue area near the Central Station Pub for smoke, and sparks coming from a nearby hydro box.

“Crews responded, we noticed the smoke coming underground, so we blocked the block off and called for (BC) Hydro,” he explains, “Hydro arrived on scene and was able to shut the power down to the box and have a look to see what the problem was. Hydro is still working on scene now, and the fire issues were clear so we cleared the scene.”
