B.C.’s COVID-19 cases rose sharply over the weekend, including seven new cases in Interior

VICTORIA — The province recorded 62 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend. In a news release, Health Minister Adrian Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 21 new cases Saturday (July 11), 20 new cases Sunday and 21 new cases in the last 24 hours. That bumps B.C.’s total number of cases to 3,115.

Over the last 72 hours, there have been seven new cases reported in the Interior Health region.

Across the region, the number of cases are as follows:

• 1,012 (Vancouver Coastal)
• 1,643 (Fraser Health)
• 135 (Island Health)
• 209 (Interior Health)
• 65 (Northern Health)

There are now 208 active cases in the province. 14 people are recovering in hospital including five in intensive care units. 2,718 people have recovered from the virus.

“There have been two new COVID-19 related deaths in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, for a total of 189 deaths in British Columbia. We offer our condolences to everyone who has lost their loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic,” stated the news release.

There have been 107 new cases reported across the province over the last 5 days. There were only 60 new cases reported over the previous five days.

Health officials have issued an Isolation Order for the Krazy Cherry Fruit Company in Oliver. Two people from the farm have tested positive. The farm is being monitored closely to limit further exposure.

One of the individuals is self-isolating in a location away from the farm. The other individual is a temporary foreign worker. They are also isolating away from the farm. Officials have not determined a link between the two cases.

The Isolation Order applies to all 36 temporary foreign workers and nine other individuals on the farm. Those individuals are restricted from leaving the farm. Meantime access to the farm is also restricted.

Interior Health has also issued alerts for community exposure events in downtown Kelowna and for the Kelowna waterfront. Officials say anyone who was at the Discovery Bay Resort from July 1 to 5 and the Boyce Gyro Beach Lodge on July 1 should self-isolate. And anyone who was at the Cactus Club restaurant on Water Street from July 3 to 6 and the Pace Spin Studio on July 2, 4, 5, 7 to 9 should self-monitor and contact public health immediately if symptoms develop.
