KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP have arrested a man in relation to the discovery of a body on the North Shore last November — though they don’t believe the victim was murdered.

In a news release issued late Friday afternoon (July 10), Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay says 51-year-old Shane Troy Brownlee has been charged with one count of interfering with or offering an indignity to a dead body.

On November 29, 2019, the body of 66-year-old David Melvin Boltwood was found wrapped in a rug near a dumpster on Carson Crescent.

While Boltwood was homeless, Pillay says investigators received several tips that the man had been staying in a nearby apartment with another man. That led police to Brownlee.

Pillay says RCMP do not believe Boltwood was murdered. He adds the matter is going to court and he cannot go into details of what led investigators to that conclusion, but it is based on “specific physical and forensic evidence that was corroborated by witnesses and investigation.”

Pillay thanks nearby residents for their help, especially as police were canvassing the neighbourhood during the early stages of the probe.
