Erosion eats into South Thompson bank along East Shuswap Road

KAMLOOPS — The province’s Ministry of Transportation says it has closed the eastbound lane of a section of East Shuswap Road near Kamloops due to river erosion.

The section is along the South Thompson River opposite Valleyview.

According to a statement, the ministry has been monitoring erosion from spring flows.

Photos from the scene show the bank has eroded right up to the eastbound traffic lane.

The ministry says its geotechnical engineers have recommended closure of that lane, though traffic can still get through the area.

Ministry staff are working with Argo Road Maintenance and provincial engineers to come up with a plan for repair.
