KAMLOOPS — Kamloops City Hall was hit by a vandal overnight.

City of Kamloops Risk Manager Terry Pile says a caretaker was inside the building at First Avenue and Seymour Street overnight when they heard glass breaking.

Someone was throwing bricks through glass doors in the building. No one was injured.

“The caretaker heard breaking glass and promptly gave the authorities a call. We understand a person has been apprehended by the RCMP,” said Pile.

Pile says three glass doors were damaged, with the bill totaling up in excess of $5,000.

“We’ve had the access for the mayor’s door and a couple of other staff entrances, the windows were smashed.”

Besides the smashed windows, there was no further damage reported and Pile says it’s not believed there was a political message or motive attached to the vandalism.

“At this point in time, we can’t link anything to that. We just think it’s senseless vandalism.”
