One dead in Canada Day crash near Ashcroft
ASHCROFT, B.C. — RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service have confirmed one person died in a crash near Ashcroft Wednesday (July 1).
According to B.C. Emergency Health Services (EHS), first responders were called to a crash on Highway 97C near Barnes Lake Road at 3:47 p.m. Wednesday.
RCMP say the unloaded rear trailers of a westbound semi from Idaho slid sideways across the lanes, hitting an eastbound pickup hauling a holiday trailer.
A 51-year-old man from Vanderhoof was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, who was in the passenger seat, was taken to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops with non-life threatening injuries. She has since been released.
