WCT calls on local artists to help create modified theatre season

Jun 30, 2020 | 10:37 AM

KAMLOOPS — When the new season begins in the fall, Western Canada Theatre (WCT) will have a new look. It describes its 2020/21 season as a season of surprises, innovation and intimacy.

While its regular season of shows is still a possibility, it’s asking local artists and creators to consider developing smaller productions that could operate in its Pavilion Theatre with cabaret-style seating. Tables will be set up and will have chairs surrounding the tables to help the theatre maintain physical distancing protocols.

Creators of the performances will need to recognize the need to maintain health protocols within their productions and are being encouraged to use their imagination to come up with inventive ways to express their creativity. Once they have a plan in place, they’re asked to contact Artistic Director James MacDonald to develop their ideas further. More information on the process will be available on the WCT website.

WCT says it remains hopeful it will be a position to announce a modified main stage season in the Sagebrush Theatre this summer. But it admits the future is a bit of a mystery as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Current WCT subscribers should hold onto your tickets for the time being. More information should be coming in the fall.
