Water levels could peak in Kamloops this week

KAMLOOPS — We’ll know in the next couple of days what the impact on river levels will be from the weekend rains.

Data yesterday at the Thompson River shows the water level flattening out, but that was before the weekend downpours made their way through the City, which will happen in the next couple of days.

Over the weekend, there were a few water problems in some areas of the City. Some we know about were on McQueen Drive in Westsyde, where water came down from the hills and went down McQueen and onto Westsyde Road, and Chukar Drive in Dallas. On Schubert Drive in North Kamloops, some homes reported water in the basement, mainly from saturated soil from the downpours and ground water levels rising. Riverside Park still has the barriers in place, and parts of the park are under water.

This will be one of the latest peaks of any of the potential flood years in the city, so it’s probably a blessing that the City is planning a virtual celebration of Canada Day rather than the real thing. The South Thompson River continues under a flood watch today.
