Mayor’s Task Force meetings to remain closed to public

KAMLOOPS — The Mayor’s Task Force on Economic Recovery and Renewal has been meeting with various groups across sectors of the local economy.

Mayor Ken Christian appointed councillors to speak to people in different industries in order to share ideas about how to boost the economy.

Christian says much of what is spoken of is not meant for public consumption.

“There is some proprietory information that is thrown around If that were to be kind of reported upon, then people would be less likely to try and share ideas,” he said.

Christian says the task force has been very successful in gathering information on economic recovery. He says recommendations will be coming out in July.

“All of that has to come back to council,” he said, “so that will likely happen in August and that will be an opportunity for those people to see whether we did well or didn’t do well. That does not negate that organizations in this community can get together and talk about economic recovery and renewal. It doesn’t all have to come from the office of the mayor.”
