KAMLOOPS — Tourism Kamloops is leaving its visitor centre in the dust.

According to a news release Thursday (June 25), Tourism Kamloops will move to a “mobile, on location model” of meeting tourists, closing its Hillside Way visitor centre to the public.

The agency says it will drive a logoed Jeep and trailer to strategic, popular locations around Kamloops as the ‘BOLD Street Team.’

CEO Beverly DeSantis says the transition comes after Tourism Kamloops “reflected upon each of our meaningful interactions with visitors” to Kamloops.

DeSantis says the marketing agency can now divert funds and resources into “new visitor engagement initiatives,” with the Jeep meeting tourists elsewhere in the community.

Despite the public closure of the visitor centre, access to the sani-station, dog-run, picnic tables, community garden and charging stations will remain.
