Police watchdog investigating after man injured during Brocklehurst arrest

B.C.’s Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is looking into an incident in Brocklehurst Tuesday night (June 23).

According to a news release from the IIO, Kamloops RCMP members were called to the 1000-block of Newton Street in Brocklehurst at about 10:45 p.m. The report involved someone threatening to fire a gun.

When officers arrived they asked the occupants of two separate suites in the home to come outside and speak to them.

One of the residents didn’t comply with officer instructions while leaving the suite. Responding officers used a “less-lethal firearm” and a police service dog to help take the man into custody.

The IIO says the man was injured in the encounter, suffering serious but non-life threatening injuries.

It’s believed the initial report to police of a firearm threat was false.
