KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP rushed to the Tranquille River area on Sunday (June 21) for reports of shots fired. The call turned out to be a false alarm.

Just before 10:30 a.m. Sunday, RCMP arrived on the scene near Tranquille-Criss Creek Road.

Those who heard the shots directed them to a camp near the river and Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says that’s where police found a man and a woman.

“Because there had been reports of shots fired, to take precautions, they arrested both of them,” said Shelkie. “When [investigators] spoke to them, they admitted that they had a starter pistol that they had been using. At that time, they were released. It was found that the man did have a warrant out of Ontario but it wasn’t extended to B.C., so they were released on scene and, at this time, they relinquished control of the starter pistol.”

No other weapons were found, and RCMP say there was no danger to the public.
