KAMLOOPS — Just days after Kamloops council fast-tracked upgrades to the McArthur Island ring road, work is set to begin.

In a news release, the City of Kamloops says construction will begin on the first stage of the project next week.

Council had initially pushed the $600,000 project to next year due to the COVID-19-related revenue squeeze.

This week, though, council was told it has access to about $2 million in gas tax funding for projects in 2020.

The McArthur Island ring road upgrades include repaving the southern section and building a three-metre wide multi-use pathway.

It’s anticipated the project will wrap up by mid-August.

There are already detours in place on the ring road due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and both motorists and pedestrians will need to watch for further closures and detours as the project unfolds.
