KAMLOOPS — A recital raising money for the Peter Collins Memorial Fund, and showcasing the youth it has helped will be live streamed this afternoon in Kamloops.

Started in memory of the late singer and music teacher in Kamloops, Peter Collins, the fund provides bursaries to help young people take music lessons. Collins was well known for his love of music, and passion for helping struggling students find a way to learn – often repairing used instruments for their use, or adding minutes on to lessons without charge.

Recently, the fund has expanded to create an annual scholarship for a student taking music in university.

Today’s virtual recital will showcase some of the Kamloops Symphony Music School’s advanced students. KSO notes some of the performers are those who followed Collins’ example and went on to post-secondary music training.

The livestream can be found on YouTube, starting at 2 p.m today. It’s free to tune in, and donations to the Peter Collins Memorial Fund are welcome.
