No new COVID-19 deaths reported in B.C over 48 hour period

VICTORIA — The province is reporting another 24-hour period of no new COVID-19 deaths, with 11 new positive cases identified today (May 30).

Of the 2,573 total cases, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says there are now 228 active cases as of Saturday.

Dr. Henry stated in an update today that 35 people are hospitalized, with 5 individuals fighting COVID-19 in intensive care.

Interior Health’s case count remains at 195 positive cases. So far, 902 cases have been identified within Vancouver Coastal Health, 1,285 in Fraser Health, 127 within Vancouver Island Health, and 64 in Northern Health.

There are currently 14 active outbreaks, with no new community outbreaks, and no new healthcare outbreaks reported today. Dr. Henry announced two healthcare outbreaks are now declared over – including an outbreak at the Haro Park Care Centre in the Lower Mainland.

Of the positive cases, 2,181 people are now fully recovered from COVID-19.

While the virus stats are improving somewhat, Dr. Henry stresses that people cannot ease up on basic prevention efforts such as limiting contact with others, hand washing, staying away from others if you feel unwell, and physical distancing.

“In the last few days, the numbers of new cases continue to stay low. And this is, as you know, in our second week of our re-start, and that is very good news,” says Dr. Henry, “But these new cases continue to be our elders in care, and there continues to be low, but some spread in our communities. This tells us that we still need to be cautious. We need to proceed with care, and we need to keep doing what we are doing to prevent transmission.”
