SALMON ARM — A sandbagging machine has been brought in today (May 30) to expedite flood prep for Salmon Valley residents, ahead of what’s expected to be a rainy weekend in the Shuswap area.

In a release, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District says alongside the other hand-fill stations, the Shuswap Emergency Program has brought in the specialized sandbagging machine to help residents prepare.

The machine will be running at the Silver Creek Firehall starting Saturday, and may continue Sunday (May 31) depending on the need in the area.

Staff will be on-hand to run the machine for rapid sand bag fills and public pick up. Hand filling materials are also available to residents, at this hall and 19 other locations in the Shuswap region. (See map below)
