KAMLOOPS — A 93 per cent average in his core Grade 12 courses has earned Blazers netminder Dylan Garand the Daryl K. Seaman Memorial Trophy for the top scholastic player in the Western Hockey League.

The 17-year-old, who attends Valleyview Secondary, maintained an overall 96.5 per cent average and is graduating this year with honours.

“Dylan is respected by his teammates as well as our staff, both as an excellent academic student and he provides excellent leadership,” said Victor Bifano, academic advisor for the Blazers. “He has managed his academics and hockey with a profound degree of maturity.”

On the ice, Garand helped the Blazers win their first B.C. Division title since 2012 with a 28-10-2-1 record, a 2.48 GAA and .914 saves percentage in 42 games. He set the Blazers single-season record for goals-against average, despite his season being cut short when he was injured in a Feb. 1 game against the Vancouver Giants.
