ASHCROFT, B.C. — A man wanted for crimes committed across Canada and the United States has been arrested in Ashcroft.

According to a news release from RCMP Southeast District spokesman Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, RCMP were called Tuesday (Apr. 28) just before 9:30 a.m. to a break-and-enter in progress at a commercial building on Cornwall Road in Ashcroft.

Officers arrested a suspect at the scene.

The man, a 29-year-old from Fresno, California, is also a suspect in a recent car theft. The white Mini Cooper was found abandoned at a gas station in Ashcroft Sunday (Apr. 26) after being stolen out of Vancouver earlier in the day.

After touching base with the Canada Border Services Agency and law enforcement authorities in the U.S., RCMP believe the man illegally crossed the border into Canada.

O’Donaghey says RCMP are making efforts to return the man to his home country.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Ashcroft RCMP at (250) 453-2216.
