Kamloops SPCA offers help to Cache Creek pet owners

KAMLOOPS — The BC SPCA is reaching out to Cache Creek residents displaced by flooding to provide emergency pet boarding for their animals.

The Kamloops SPCA’s Community Engagement Manager Hayley Bennett said the shelter had been working to adopt out as many animals as possible over the past month to make space in case of emergency situations.

The SPCA will be able to provide emergency boarding at the Community Animal Centre or through pet fosters.

They will also be providing pet food and supplies.

“We’re realizing they’re in a doubly difficult situation with everything going on and then adding the flooding on top of that,” Bennett said. “So, we’re really happy that, with community support and hopefully additional community support, we’ll be able to support these communities outside of Kamloops that are dealing with more difficult situations.”

With the need for food and supplies rising among pet owners, the SPCA is asking for donations of unopened dry and canned pet food and cat litter.

“We are seeing an increased need and definitely reaching out to the public more for that support,” Bennett said. “Not only can they drop off food at our shelter in our donation bin, so it’s contactless, between 8:00 a.m. and about 4:30 p.m. to make sure we bring it inside and disinfect the packaging, but we also have an Amazon link that we’ve been providing by social media, so if people aren’t able to physically go out and buy it and drop it off, they can make a donation on there.”
