Police say reported incident near Halston Bridge was unfounded

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say a reported hostage incident last night (Apr. 21) near the Halston Bridge turned out to be unfounded.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says Tuesday evening around 7 p.m, Kamloops Rural RCMP responded to a report of a hostage situation inside a home in the 1200 block of Kootenay Way.

“Out of an abundance of caution while acting on information available to us at the time, we closed down the Halston Bridge, and evacuated a few residences in the immediate area, and called the Emergency Response Team (ERT).”

Shelkie says officers entered the home where the alleged incident was reported to be taking place, found it to be empty, and determined the inital report was unfounded.

“So this was a situation where we took the appropriate steps to ensure public safety, but in this case the police report was unfounded.”
