VICTORIA — A man in his 40s has died as a result of COVID-19.

That’s according to B.C. provincial health officer Bonnie Henry, who made the announcement during her daily news briefing on Monday (Apr. 6). It’s not known where the man lived, but Henry said the death occurred in the community.

Over the last two days, there have been 63 new cases of COVID-19 in the province.

There are 128 confirmed positive cases in the Interior Health region — which means the number of confirmed cases in the area has not changed since Saturday.

Henry said 210 of the COVID-19 cases in B.C. are associated with longterm care facility outbreaks.

Of the total number of cases in the province, 783 people have fully recovered. One-hundred-and-forty people are currently hospitalized, including 72 people in intensive care.

Henry said two inmates at a federal correctional facility in Mission, B.C. have tested positive for the virus.
