Snow, blustery wind in the forecast for Kamloops on Friday

Apr 2, 2020 | 3:46 PM

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops is well into spring, but some significant snowfall is expected over the next 24 hours.

According to Environment Canada’s Bobby Sekhon, snow will fall beginning tonight (Apr. 2).

“A weak low-pressure system is coming through that is giving us a few bouts of snow. A chance of snow tonight, but really tomorrow is going to be the main event in the morning and early afternoon,” said Sekhon. “We’re not expecting a whole lot of accumulations, so it’s going to be fairly light, but still there will be some snow.”

Friday morning could bring a blustery reminder of winter, with winds gusting up to 50 kilometres-per-hour.

“The snow falling, especially on the ground with a little bit of wind like we’re expecting, it could be blowing around,” said Sekhon. “It will make it feel cooler, as well, so we’ll see a windchill of -3 C in the morning tomorrow, for example.”

High mountain passes will receive significantly more snow.

Sekhon says snow should ease Friday, though the low-pressure system will remain in place through the weekend.

“It does look drier into the weekend, but we still stay in this cooler air mass. And also, in this kind of pattern, we can’t completely rule out the chance of some flurries developing,” said Sekhon. “So the weekend still is a little bit uncertain in that sense. We’ll have to keep an eye on the forecast.”

Much warmer conditions are forecast for early next week.
