Kamloops council to resume sitting next week

Apr 1, 2020 | 3:54 PM

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops council meetings, placed on hold at the outset of the COVID-19 outbreak, will resume next week.

According to a news release from the City of Kamloops, the next council meeting will take place on Tuesday, Apr. 7 at the regular time of 1:30 p.m.

However, the City says several steps will be taken to safeguard the health of individuals during the meetings.

There will be a maximum of five councillors, including the mayor, present in council chambers — all practicing physical distancing. All remaining councillors will join through electronic connections.

The public and media will be kept out of the meeting as well.

And the City says staff will “only be present as required” in the gallery of council chambers, sitting apart from each other.

In the release, Mayor Ken Christian says, “[c]ouncil needs to meet to make decisions to help the city move forward through the pandemic and beyond.”
