Several people at Kamloops seniors housing complex may have been exposed to COVID-19: IH

KAMLOOPS — Interior Health says it is monitoring the situation at a Brocklehurst seniors community after a number of residents may have been exposed to COVID-19.

In an email to CFJC Today, Interior Health says it has been in contact with several individuals at the RiverBend Manor complex who may have been exposed to a COVID-19 case.

“Those individuals have been asked to follow the precautions identified for people who may have been exposed, including 14 days of self-isolation from the time of exposure,” the email states. “Our communicable disease specialists are monitoring the situation at this facility.”

IH points out that RiverBend is not a long-term care home, and the units in the facility are considered private dwellings.

Currently, there are no outbreaks in any Interior health long-term care homes, and the agency is taking “all precautions” to protect individuals in care.

“Please note that community transmission of COVID-19 has been detected in communities across the Interior Health region. Everyone in all communities should assume COVID-19 cases are present and take appropriate precautions, including social distancing and staying home if you are sick or feeling unwell.”

IH explains that when it has confirmed a case of COVID-19, it reaches out to people who may have been exposed. When the agency is unable to reach all people in a group, the organization, agency, or business involved is asked to distribute notifications.

“We would issue a public service announcement if we are not confident health officials can reach all the individuals who may have been exposed, as we did with the pharmacy in Sahali. That decision will be made on the advice of IH medical health officers.”

On Thursday (March 26), Interior Health issued a public alert after a pharmacy worker at the Save-On-Foods in Sahali was presumed to have COVID-19.

RiverBend is a privately-run supportive housing and assisted living unit.
