TNRD shutters eco-depots to building materials and yard waste as a result of a spike in dumping
KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Nicola Regional District is working to minimize the impact of COVID-19 on hundreds of employees and thousands of residents of its geographic area.
Interim CAO Randy Diehl says the TNRD is responding to issues that arise each day. Most recently, the regional district has decided to close their eco-depots to everything except everyday household waste, as a result of an increase in construction and yard waste being dropped off.
“What we’re finding is that people have a lot of time on their hands at home, so they’re doing home renovations, and spring cleanup and our ec- depots just got inundated with the public delivering product,” Diehl explained. “As a result, we had some pretty serious traffic congestion problems and far too many issues related to social distancing between public members as well as the staff.
