KAMLOOPS — The local United Way is celebrating after its Period Promise campaign raised more than 21,000 menstrual products for women and girls who need them.

According to a news release from United Way Thompson-Nicola-Cariboo Interim Executive Director Katie Neustaeter, the two-week campaign garnered donations from more than 40 local businesses as well as the broader community.

Neustaeter says that result was “truly stunning” and exceeded expectations, and says the organization was able to distribute the products before the COVID-19 pandemic would have prevented it.

Organizations who received the donations include:

  • ASK Wellness — SHOP program
  • YWCA — women’s shelter
  • CMHA — second stage housing and shelter,
  • Boys and Girls Club — life skills and first steps program
  • Kamloops Immigrant Services
  • Interior Community Services — Acadia youth outreach and shelter
  • Aboriginal Friendship Centre
  • Kamloops Pit Stop
  • Elizabeth Fry Society — second stage housing and supports for women and children
