Williams Lake to open low-risk Emergency Operations Centre on Tuesday

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Following in the footsteps of other Interior municipalities, Williams Lake is set to activate its Emergency Operations Centre on Tuesday morning.

The centre will be active starting at 8:30, but the city says it’s a low-risk centre as it monitors the COVID-19 situation.

“The activation of the EOC is a proactive measure to ensure there are appropriate resources and a coordinated local plan to support the Province of British Columbia’s response plan,” said a release from the city. “Upon activation of the EOC, there will be a dedicated phone line for residents to call with operational or nonmedical related questions. Our staff will provide answers and direction toward available resources.”

Williams Lake has reduced staff as a “safety precaution” in light of recommendations from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and has encouraged as many of its employees to work from home. However, the city says it will maintain essential services.

The phone number residents can call for local questions is 250-392-2364. For more specific concerns about the novel coronavirus, they can call either the Health Link 811 number or the dedicated COVID-19 line at 1-888-COVID19.

Williams Lake also has locally-updated COVID-19 information on its website.
