SOUND OFF: The view of COVID-19 from MP McLeod’s office

Mar 13, 2020 | 3:51 PM

AS THE MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT for Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo, I want to offer my thoughts to constituents and all Canadians who are affected by COVID-19. This includes my fellow parliamentarians and the Prime Minister and his wife.

I would also like to thank all public health officials and frontline health care workers who are working around the clock to keep Canadians healthy and safe.

These are extraordinary times. With the World Health Organization declaring COVID-19 a global pandemic, it is incumbent on everyone to exercise the highest degree of caution. Parliament has now been suspended until April 20. All parties have agreed that the government will continue to have the authority and capability to provide our country with necessary financial supports.

While this pandemic is continually evolving, we encourage everyone who may need guidance to find the latest information regarding travel, symptoms and other updates online at Canada.ca/coronavirus or call 1-833-784-4397.

Additionally, B.C. specific information, can be found on the BC Centre for Disease Control website (including those who are crossing the U.S. border).

For many businesses and individuals, this crisis is creating significant economic hardship. The government is working to put together a comprehensive support package and I will be sharing your suggestions with them.

My office is remaining open during regular hours; however, we would ask anyone who is feeling unwell or travelled outside of Canada to contact the office by phone or email. Rest assured all levels of government are working around the clock to ensure you are being provided with the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding this health crisis. I encourage people to take necessary precautions, but stay calm and we will all get through this together.
