CALGARY — The TRU WolfPack women’s volleyball’s season is now over, after the team’s most successful run in program history.

Last night (Mar. 6), the WolfPack were beaten in straight sets by the Mount Royal University Cougars in the Canada West bronze medal match.

The loss followed the WolfPack making it past the quarter-finals, and playing into the Canada West semi-finals for the first time.

Mount Royal will now join the Alberta Pandas, Trinity Western Spartans and the host Calgary Dinos at the U SPORTS women’s volleyball nationals.

Thompson Rivers was led by Kseniya Kocyigit (1st year, middle, Byaroza, Belarus) with seven kills and two service aces. (Kocyigit was also named the TRU player of the match.) Kocyigit’s efforts were followed by Olga Savenchuk (2nd year, outside hitter, Donetsk, Ukraine) who had six kills, six digs and one block. Avery Pottle (4th year, middle, Uxbridge, ON) also brought in five kills and two blocks, followed by Abby Spratt (4th year, setter, Calgary, AB) with 14 assists, and Hali Drezet’s (4th year, libero, Prince George, BC) six digs.

Meanwhile Kendra Finch (5th year, outside hitter, North Vancouver, BC) had four kills on 23 chances with five digs in her final University match.

The loss followed a stream of successes in the 2019/2020 season for the WolfPack – including multiple national rankings, their first Canada West playoff series, Finch, and Kocyigit named Canada West all-stars, and Finch being named the Canada West Community Service Athlete of the Year.
