RCMP recover $60K in stolen property after chase
QUESNEL, B.C. — A 100 Mile House man is facing multiple charges after police recovered $60,000 in stolen property last week.
Quesnel RCMP Sgt. Richard Weseen says it all started last Tuesday (Feb. 25) morning when a Quesnel resident observed the suspect, who was driving a pickup truck, stealing a Bobcat and trailer from a property on Hydraulic Road in Quesnel. He says the witness called police with the license plate number and police learned the vehicle was stolen the same morning from a home on Arbutus Road.
Not long afterwards, Weseen says police received word that the truck and trailer were travelling southbound on Highway 97 at Alexandria. He says an unmarked police vehicle caught up with the truck and initiated surveillance.
“The Williams Lake RCMP and the Cariboo Crime Reduction Unit set up a roadblock on Highway 97 near Wildwood,” notes Weseen. “The driver tried to avoid the roadblock by turning down a rural driveway but subsequently got stuck in the snow. The lone occupant of the truck was taken into custody without incident.”
