Kamloops expecting sunny weather for Family Day excursions

KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada says the Kamloops area can expect to enjoy sunshine for Family Day activities.

Meteorologist Johnson Zhong says a strong upper ridge will bring sunny weather to the Kamloops area tomorrow and the next few days

“Expecting sunny (days), and clear nights with a bit colder temperatures in the morning. Looking at minus 7 or minus 8 for Monday Tuesday, and Wednesday.”

On the area highways, Zhong says there’s a good chance Highway 1 near Rogers Pass will see a few centimetres of snowfall, along with a chance for snow on higher elevations of the Coquihalla.

Zhong says the ridge will break by Thursday, so clouds and a chance of flurries will come with that.

“But the good thing is the temperature will likely warm up to about plus 8 or 9 after Thursday.”

He notes that the following weekend will likely see warmer temperatures compared to the start of the week.

As far as whether Kamloops is experiencing any unusual weather, Zhong says the average temperatures are generally around a low of minus 4, and a high of plus 4, so this forecast is pretty normal for the area.
