Suspect in Kamloops hotel fire arrested in Grand Forks

After a January 30 fire at the Travelodge on Rogers Way in Kamloops, RCMP released photos of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving. At the time, police said the man was driving a black Dodge pickup truck with Alberta license plates.

On Sunday (Feb. 9), Mounties responding to a driving complaint in Kelowna involving a black Dodge pickup truck with Alberta plates. Though the driver evaded RCMP attempts to pull him over, police learned the vehicle was registered to a man wanted on Canada-wide warrants for parole violations.

Later Sunday, Mounties in Greenwood received another driving complaint about the same vehicle. Officers later found the truck abandoned in Grand Forks.

This morning (Feb. 10), Cst. Wolfram of West Kootenay Traffic Services was on her way to work in Grand Forks when she noted a man fitting the suspect’s description.

Wolfram called for help from an another officer from her unit, and the two asked the suspect for identification.

“When we called the suspect by name, he asked why police asked for identification if they already knew who he was,” Wolfram is quoted in the release.

The man was arrested without incident and taken to the nearby Grand Forks RCMP detachment.

He is being held on a list of outstanding charges and alleged violations.
