KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Broncos are happy to announce the signing of Braden Vankoughnett as their new Head Coach.

Prior to taking the job as the head coach, Vankoughnett served as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Co-ordinator. He was directly in charge of recruiting players and has built a strong player base and has formed many new partnerships. Vankoughnett is an alumnus of the Kamloops Broncos and has enjoyed a successful football career. He played for the Kamloops Broncos in 2015 before joining the squad of the Acadia Axmen where he played for 2 season. Vankoughnett returned to the Kamloops Broncos in 2018 and has since been an integral member of the Broncos coaching staff.

In addition, Vankoughnett is an auxiliary firefighter and is pursuing his university degree at Thompson Rivers University.

Vankoughnett now faces the challenge of developing a strong and successful football program and recruiting players that will help to move the Broncos to the next level. “We’re very fortunate to have landed a coach like Vankoughnett who is a successful recruiter, a great football player and is a solid football coach”, said Jan Antons, General Manager Kamloops Broncos. Antons added, “Coach Vankoughnett has had the opportunity to be a player and coach with the Kamloops Broncos. We know he will be a great mentor, preparing our student athletes and players for the challenges they will have on and off the field and more importantly in life after football”.

Vankoughnett is excited about the challenge in front of him. “I am very honoured to be named Head Coach of the Kamloops Broncos and to have the opportunity to build a reputable and respectable program here is very exciting”, said Vankoughnett. “My goal is to build a program that our players, students, staff, alumni and community members can all be proud of. I feel that my diverse experiences in football will assist the Broncos in launching a successful program”, added Vankoughnett.

Vankoughnett takes over a Broncos team that has gone winless in each of the last two seasons.

He is the third head coach in three years, following Brad Yamaoka and Rob Ellis.

Ellis, who is the principal of an elementary school in Armstrong, will continue to work with the Broncos when time permits.

Vankoughnett’s first task as the Head Coach will be to pick his assistant coaches and staff. The Kamloops Broncos season starts with spring camp on May 8, 9 and 10th 2020.
