Avalanche work, rockslides bring delays and road closures around BC

KAMLOOPS — A number of incidents along highways within the Interior, Cariboo, and Fraser Canyon areas have either closed, or brought delays this morning (Feb. 1).

A section of Highway 97 between Monte Lake Road, and Barnhartvale Road experienced a rock slide earlier, and while the road is now open to traffic, delays are expected.

On the Coquihalla, part of Highway 5 is closed between Othello Road and Merritt due to debris on the road, and flooding. Drive BC says an assessment is in progress, but so far there is no current detour available.

In the Cariboo, Highway 97 is closed in both directions south of Clinton due to a rock slide between Loon Lake Road, and 26 Mile Frontage Road.

From Lytton to Yale, a portion of Highway 1 is closed in both directions near Whiskey Fill Road, and Main Street due to rocks on the road, with the next update expected around 11:30 a.m today.

And another rock slide has Highway 1 closed in both directions from Spences Bridge to the Cache Creek area, with an update from Drive BC expected by 10 a.m this morning.

A scattering of avalanche work also has other spots on area highways closed, or traffic has been temporarily delayed for those sections.
