KAMLOOPS — RCMP say two local brothers are accused of stealing excavators in Kamloops.

David and Sean Nicholson are charged with possession of stolen property for separate incidents earlier this month.

According to RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie, on January 17 a frontline officer saw a stolen Ford F-350 pulling a stolen trailer and excavator on the Trans Canada Highway West.

When the officer tried to pull the vehicle over, it sped away, leading the officer to alert RCMP detachments in Merritt and Ashcroft that it could be heading their way.

Ashcroft RCMP officers arrested 30-year-old David Edward Nicholson later that evening.

The next day, a flat deck truck with an excavator was reported stolen in Kamloops. It was located later that day and the driver, alleged to be 32-year-old Sean Patrick Nicholson, was arrested.

Shelkie says both men remain in custody and officers are investigating the likelihood that they helped each other with the thefts, and perhaps other vehicle or excavator thefts in the Kamloops area.

Anyone who recognizes their photos and may have noticed suspicious activity related to heavy machinery is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000.
