KAMLOOPS — A cleaning lady who discovered the body of a 52-year-old woman in Aberdeen in 2016 took the stand during a Fraser Valley man’s first-degree murder trial today.

David Miller is facing a charge of first-degree murder in connection to the death of Debra Novacluse, whose body was found at the Super 8 Motel in Kamloops in August 2016.

The cleaning lady who discovered Novacluse’s body outlined the 24 hours prior to entering the motel room. She said on Aug. 26, 2016 — the day before Novacluse’s body was found — a man from the room, alleged to be Miller, requested a couple of towels.

When she returned the next day to clean the room, she noticed something was not right.

According to her testimony, the bed sheet was missing from one of the beds, and after a couple of minutes, she noticed one of the mattresses was lifted slightly. She notified management and when the mattress was lifted, staff discovered the dead body.

By the time of the discovery, Miller was already on his way to Ontario before being arrested days later. Miller has said he blacked out for a period of days during the time Novacluse was killed.

The trial continues on Wednesday at B.C. Supreme Court.
