LYTTON, B.C. — The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) has sent a team to Lytton after a man was killed in a confrontation with RCMP in the village Monday morning (Jan. 13).

In a news release, the IIO says RCMP were called to a home in Lytton just before 8:00 a.m. Monday. They were told a man was in distress at the home and had a weapon.

Officers on scene reported shots fired and the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called to the scene. Some local residents reported to CFJC Today that they saw unmarked ERT vehicles speeding westbound through Kamloops on the Trans Canada Highway.

The IIO says just after 2:00 p.m., an officer fired on the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
