KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada is cautioning people in the South Thompson region this morning (Jan. 4) of the potential damage to come from strong winds blowing through the area.

Strong westerly winds of 70 km/h, gusting to 90 km/h have developed in the region, including the Kamloops area, but are expected to ease up later this morning.

Environment Canada warns that any loose objects could be tossed or knocked around by the wind, and trees may be downed in the windstorm. The weather service also warns drivers that road conditions may change with the high winds.

Meanwhile, a snowfall warning is in place for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt this weekend. The largest accumulations are expected today with amounts of up to 15 cm, followed by further snowfall tonight and again on Sunday (Jan. 5).
