Sudden storm creates traffic warning Thursday night
KAMLOOPS — Streets are much better this morning than they were last night, as police had to issue a traffic warning to residents when the streets became treacherous because of the sudden dump of snow.
RCMP issued a warning just before 9:00 PM for residents to only drive if they had to because of numerous accidents. In a news release, Staff Sergeant Victor Steinhammer said there had been a number of incidents around the City. Travellers also reported a long line of semis backed up because of problems getting up the Peterson Creek bypass.
But City crews swung into action quickly and the roads improved in relatively short order, and both RCMP and Kamloops Fire report relatively little overnight in the City. Some streets, though, particularly side streets are still icy, so give yourself plenty of time to get to work this morning.
There are still snowfall warnings and special weather statements out for most of the Interior this morning, so expect some snow if you’re heading out of town. There was a lot of snow last night, but the storm is expected to track north today, allowing the snow to come to an end for the Okanagan and South Thompson. It will, however, persist in the Kootenays, Columbias as well as the Central and Northern Interior.
