KAMLOOPS — Dog owners in the Brocklehurst area will reap the benefits from construction of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion through their community.

According to a City of Kamloops news release, the municipal government and federal Crown corporation in charge of the pipeline have agreed to build a new dog park near the intersection of Aviation Way and Tranquille Road.

Trans Mountain will pick up the bill.

Construction on the pipeline through Brocklehurst could begin as soon as this spring and that will result in the temporary closure of the Ord Road dog park.

Civic Operations Director Jen Fretz says the new Aviation Way dog park will be open before the Ord Road park closes.

“We’re happy to see the additional investment in Kamloops,” said Fretz in the release. “The end result will be two dog parks in an area that is already well used by dog owners.”

Before the work begins near the Ord Road park, the City of Kamloops is planning rock face mitigation along Ord Road.

Fretz says traffic control will be in place during this project, which is tentatively scheduled for late January through to March.
