Riversong Guitars looking to recoup stolen information following morning break-in

KAMLOOPS— A world-renowned guitar company in Kamloops is hoping to get back what was taken from them, after an early morning break-in.

Riversong founder and CEO Mike Miltimore says an alarm company called around 5:30 this morning (Dec. 27) to let him know the front door motion sensors went off, and glass was broken at the Lorne Street factory.

“So we’re just assessing everything that was stolen, but I know for sure one of the items was our marketing computer/laptop,” Miltimore says. “Which is one of the worst things that could happen at this time of year because we have a huge trade show coming up with the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) show in California. All of our catalogs are on there, Photoshop files, everything for our website, all that kind of stuff is done through this one computer.”

Miltimore says it appears no instruments were stolen, but he figures it would be hard for thieves to sell any of the custom guitars without being caught.

“I guess if you steal a Riversong custom-made, eight-string fan fret guitar, it’s going to be pretty difficult to sell it.”

Now, the company hopes the stolen laptop will be returned, and is asking the public to keep an eye out for a silver 13-inch, Apple MacBook Pro from 2015 or 2016.

“It’s definitely not a new laptop, but if you know of it or have seen it, we’re just asking that you please bring it back,” he says. “The laptop — I think it’s worth more as aluminum scrap metal, but the actual information that’s on it is what is worth a lot to us.”

The company does have some backups made of some of the items on the laptop, but Miltimore says they’re not sure whether everything that was put together can be salvaged.

Miltimore hopes they can have the information recovered before leaving for the trade show in January, as they have brand-new, custom guitars that will be debuted at the event and need the marketing plans to go with them.
