Kamloops Fire Rescue warns drivers to take caution on icy roads after morning accident

KAMLOOPS — One person was taken to hospital after a single-vehicle crash in Kamloops this morning (Dec. 27).

Kamloops Fire Rescue responded to the incident on Highway 1 near the Columbia Street on-ramp. Platoon Capt. Troy Grant says road conditions were not ideal.

“We did have a green Ford Explorer hit the no-post this morning,” Grant says. “Road conditions were icy. One person in the vehicle did go to hospital with back injuries.”

Grant says any time temperatures are near 0 C, bad conditions can be expected.

“I think this was unexpected a little bit this morning,” he says. “The roads appeared to be dry but there was a small film of ice down there. Even with safety crews and emergency crews working down there just even on the boots, the ground was slippery. Just be aware that any time we’ve got temperatures near zero degrees or close to it, you might have the ground that’s frozen.”
