Salvation Army hopes to reach Kettle Campaign goal by Christmas

KAMLOOPS — The Salvation Army is hoping people will be extra generous in the final days leading up to Christmas in order to reach their $350,000 Kettle Campaign goal.

This morning (Dec. 23) Captains Cory and Kelly Fifield and their children were at Aberdeen Mall, singing Christmas carols and collecting donations.

Volunteers have been set up at locations across the city, collecting the money that will help the Salvation Army run its programs year-round.

“Today, at this point, we’re at just over $290,000 towards our $350,000 goal,” Capt. Cory Fifield said. “We’ve got about $60,000 left. We’ve only got today and tomorrow for our kettles, but the most important thing we want people to know is our Christmas campaign goes right up to the end of the year until the 31st.”

In addition to raising money through the Kettle Campaign, the Salvation Army made Christmas food hampers for people in need.

Those were distributed late last week.

“We distributed our hampers on Friday, and we had families coming in and individuals and couples coming in to receive both food hampers as well as toys,” Fifield said. “We had 115 Christmas hampers we were able to give out to support families, I believe there are about 275 people included in that in terms of kids we were able to support at Christmas, which is great.”
