Out of the Cold finds new location for the New Year

Dec 23, 2019 | 8:53 AM

KAMLOOPS — After months of being without a location to operate, Out of the Cold has found its new home for the new year.

The Canadian Mental Health Association’s Kamloops branch has made its 857 Seymour Street building available from January through to March, 2020.

The shelter is set to run on Wednesday and Sunday nights starting the first week of January.

“There is some red tape that needs to be addressed before a start date can be confirmed,” Out of the Cold’s Lena Cimmarrusti says in a news release. “To help get the program back underway, we are looking for volunteers to fill a number of roles that keep the shelter running.”

A volunteer information session is being held on Dec. 28 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Cathedral, and anyone interested in helping out is invited to attend.

To register, call (250) 299-6699.

The shelter is also in need of some help with preparing dinners for shelter guests in January, and any local groups willing to provide meals is asked to contact Out of the Cold.
