ASHCROFT, B.C. — RCMP in Ashcroft are trying to piece together the circumstances that led to a collision between a train and a car in the community this morning.

According to Southeast District RCMP spokesman Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, the crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of Old Cariboo Road and Tingley Street.

O’Donaghey says it’s believed a Mazda MX3 was hit on its passenger side by the southbound CN train. The collision rocked the car onto its drivers side before it came back to rest on its wheels.

Emergency responders transported the male driver, who was the lone occupant, to hospital. O’Donaghey says the man’s injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, though he remains in hospital.

RCMP in Ashcroft are still looking for witnesses to come forward as they investigate the circumstances.

Anyone who saw the incident but has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact Ashcroft RCMP at (250) 453-2216.
