SALMON ARM, B.C. — Police in Salmon Arm are investigating after a suspicious item was discovered in a local casino.

Salmon Arm RCMP says in a news release that the discovery of the item led to a full evacuation and a call out to the RCMP’s Explosives Disposal Unit.

On Saturday (Dec. 14) at roughly 8:30 p.m., police were called to Chances Casino along with the Salmon Arm Fire Department after staff located a suspicious item.

First responders examined the item and ordered the evacuation of the building as a precaution.

“With the use of a remotely operated device, specially trained explosives technicians were able to remove the device and render it safe on-site,” says Staff Sgt. Scott West of the Salmon Arm RCMP in a news release. “Investigators have now determined that the device did not pose a real threat to public safety.”

The criminal investigation is ongoing to try and determine who may have been responsible for leaving the item inside the casino.

Anyone with information is asked to call Salmon Arm RCMP at (250) 832-6044 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
