On April 16, 2016, two months after his 80th birthday, Douglas Brian Byres died at Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, BC after a brief illness. Doug is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years Eva, daughters Nicole and Brianna, son Ron, and grandchildren – Nicholas, Alex, Max, Hannah and Sophia.

Doug spent most of his working life teaching math and science in Trail, Prince George, Dawson Creek, Kamloops and Macau. He had many interests over the years including skiing, fishing, golfing, hunting, swimming, and flying small aircraft. Doug’s many friends and family will miss his laughter and jokes. Doug was a happy man, who adored his family. He said that his wife, children and grandchildren were the best things that had ever happened to him.
