Gauld "nee Mitchell", Alma Rosetta

Posted May 3, 2016 | 2:15 AM

February 19, 1916 – April 27, 2016

Alma Mitchell was born in Radville, Saskatchewan to parents Samuel and Myrtle Mitchell. Her siblings were Bessie, Clarence, Adelia, Almeda, Iris, Elmer (Bud), Ethel, Margetta and Delbert. Born the ninth of ten children, she was part of her own family’s centenarian club as Alma, Adelia, Iris and Margetta all celebrated their 100th birthdays!

Alma’s family moved from Saskatchewan to the Hazel Ridge area of Manitoba, and in 1933, she met and married Reginald James Scott. Their first two children Dale and Denis were born in Manitoba. After moving to Kenora, Ontario, they had four more children Linda, Joan, Wilma and Gerald (Gerry).

Following Reg’s death in 1959, Alma learned to drive and began to work outside the home in order to support her young family. Her work ranged from being a census clerk, to a cook and retail clerk and various other jobs making friends wherever she worked.

In 1966 she married her second husband George Gauld, who had two children James and Ellen. In 1973 they left their Kenora home and moved to Vernon, BC. They enjoyed the sunshine and warmth of Vernon and enjoyed tending to their beautiful gardens and fruit trees. Alma also continued to enjoy sewing and crafts, as she had most of her life, especially her needlework.

Upon George’s passing, Alma decided it was time to move to Kamloops to be closer to her family. She was an active member of the 1st Baptist Church and the Westsyde Baptist Church. She enjoyed sharing her skills of sewing, needlework and all types of handicrafts with others, often giving people her lovely creations. She enjoyed her social groups, and was always ready for visit or a laugh.

When she moved into The Hamlets, she could often be found visiting with her neighbours or having coffee with her friends. She loved music and there were many times she would get a group of friends singing a favourite song together….there was always a song in her heart!

Alma is survived by her sister Margetta and her children Dale (Eva) Scott, Linda (Gordon) Hebner, Joan (Stanley) Godfrey, Wilma Scott and Gerald Scott (Linda Fleury), step children James (Elaine) Gauld and Ellen LaPlante. She had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son Denis Scott.

A Memorial Service will be held for Alma on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Schoening Funeral Service at 1:00 pm. A reception will be held there immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Kamloops Food Bank or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.schoeningfuneralservice.com.
