1922 – 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Luis Perez, in the early hours of Tuesday, August 2, 2016. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at Kamloops Senior Village. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Sofia Ines Perez, in 2010 and his brothers Otilio, Raul, Oscar and Leopoldo. He is survived by sisters, Leticia and Teresita. Luis also leaves behind to mourn him his two daughters, Gloria (Gilles) Viaud of Kamloops and Liliana (Kim) Perez-Lefevre of Kelowna, as well as his granddaughters Anna-Maria, Marie-Elena, and Elissa Viaud, Celeste, Coco and Adele Lefevre and grandson Miguel Luis Lefevre.
Luis was born Sept. 28, 1922 in Santa Rosa de Osos, Colombia. He studied in Popayan and Bogota, Colombia. Luis’ passion for books lead him to meet the love of his life and future wife, the beautiful librarian at the Colombian-American Library. He then went on to get his Masters and Ph.D degrees at Stanford University, California, and at Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. Luis taught at San Jose State University before moving his family to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where he had a long and illustrious career as a university professor at the University of Saskatchewan.
Luis was a great teacher, poet, writer and devoted Catholic. He published two books and various poems, and had the honour of being inducted in the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language, North American Division.
Luis and Ines spent the last years of their lives in Kamloops where they enjoyed being close to their grandchildren.

Prayers will be recited at 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2797 Sunset Drive.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Celebrant, Father Fred Weisbeck.
Following the Mass, Luis will be laid to rest with his beloved Sofia Ines, at Hillside Cemetery.
